COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY


It is a private research University. Located in upper Manhattan, New York. It is the earliest educational institute in the New York. Its former names are Kings College and Columbia College. The University of Columbia is established as Kings College in 1754. It started work as the university in 1896. It was the first school of its time in the United States which grant M.D degree. Its president is Lee Bollinger.

Organization of University:

Twenty schools organized the university which includes Columbia College, The School of Gender Studies, The School of Engineering and Applied Science. They also have its research points in many cities like Nairobi, Paris, Istanbul, Mumbai and Amman.

University Ranking:

According to the world report, University of Columbia is at number 4th among universities in the United States in 2016. By Times Higher Education World University Ranking it is at 15th place. It is 22nd in the world by the ranking of World University Ranking.

Student Population:

It is nearly 30,000 in all programs offered by the University. A number of students in postgraduate programs are larger than the number of students in undergraduate programs. Ratio of students belongs to different categories are as under:
  • Minority 39%
  • Born outside the US 28%
  • 26% of students are with family income low than $60000
  • Receive Federal Pell Grant  16%
  • 15% are those who are first in their family to attend university for receiving the four-year college education.
